When it comes to setting up and operating CNC machinery to ensure precision and quality, Ozzy is a critical part of our team.
Meet Ozzy Sherrod, CNC Machinist at Helix Linear Technologies.
When it comes to setting up and operating CNC machinery to ensure precision and quality, Ozzy is a critical part of our team. Working at Helix for the past three years, he enjoys multiple aspects of his job, including the people he works with each day.
"I enjoy the team I work with," Ozzy said. "Everyone here is really good at what they do. There's so much knowledge on this team!"
Ozzy's job involves significant amounts of math and problem-solving skills. For example, he is continuously learning and refining formulas for different lead screw variations and thread forms.
"The majority of the calculations for modifying bars and manufacturing lead screws with different thread types was new to me when I first started working at Helix," he said. "Each job that comes across my desk has specific variables that need to be considered so we can manufacture precise, high-quality products for our customers."
When asked what advice he would give to a CNC Machinist who is just starting out in the business, this is what he had to say:
"Find knowledgeable people to listen to -- and listen hard," Ozzy said. "Most of what I have learned is from other machinists here, working through challenges with my co-workers as they arise."
Ozzy looks forward to continuing to grow with Helix Linear Technologies and working on projects with problem-solving aspects.
Fun Fact – When Ozzy is not taking on dynamic challenges in his job at Helix Linear, he enjoys working out and going fishing. He travels to one of his favorite fishing spots on Lake Pymatuning (a large lake on the border of Ohio and Pennsylvania) as often as he can.
